Product Description
Type pen set
Product Name Century, this is the early version. This is not to be confused with the recent Classic Century model which is more slender.
Manufacturer and Year Cross, USA -- Probably 1980s.
Length All four pieces are 5-1/4"
Filling System The fountain pen takes Cross cartridges and push in converters. A Cross Townsend converter is installed. The ballpoint pen takes screw-in Cross "C1" ballpoint refills. A working blue refill is installed. The pencil takes 0.9mm leads and has an eraser beneath the cap. The complicated pen in this set is the rollerball. The rollerball takes vintage Cross rolling ball refills. They are no longer produced and the modern Cross rollerball refills do not fit. The Fisher SSBR-4B refill also fits and is discontinued. A working blue Cross refill is installed. There are workarounds to fit a Parker-style ballpoint refill.
Color Sterling silver in a grouped lines pattern. The section and the top of the cap are black.
Nib FINE 14k nib is smooth and firm. The tipping looks really nice and round.
Condition Excellent + condition set. The fountain pen looks the best with the least amount of handwear. The rollerball and mechancial pencil both have heavier handwear with some light scratching. The pencil has a few small marks and one dent toward the tip. The rollerball cap has a few small marks. The fountain pen has two tiny marks close together on the barrel. The ballpoint cap has two scratches. All four pieces have clear imprints and designs. There's a spot of tarnish here or there but cracks or chips. Despite the dents and scratches, the pens really look good in hand. All of the imperfections are hard to notice. The pen set ships in a leather case.
