Product Description
Type Vintage Vacumatic filling fountain pen.
Product Name Vacumatic Sub-Deb (this is the smallest size of vacumatic). This upscale sub-deb differs from standard sub-debs in that the jewels are striped, and it has a Blue Diamond clip.
Manufacturer and Year Parker, made in USA -- 1939 (the date code is a clear .9. marked on the barrel).
Length 4-11/16".
Filling System Speedline style Vacumatic filler. We've restored it and it's working very well.
Color Golden Pearl, the plastic barrel is in a pattern of brown-gold rings alternating with clear black rings. It had gold plated trim, striped jewels of the same color as its body on either end, and a wide, nearly 1/4" cap band with grooves around it known as a Jewelers band.
Nib BROAD gold Parker arrow nib is single-tone. It's lovely, very smooth with excellent tipping and just a hint of springyness. Boy, we rarely see broad nibs on deb-sized Vacs.
Condition Excellent condition, though there are a few smal light scratches on its cap and barrel, and some light handwear. There's a little brassing on the barrel's tassie ring, but otherwise the plating looks great. The jewelers band shows a couple of tiny pinpoint indents, but no real dings or dents. The pen is free of cracks, chips, dings, dents, or plating wear for the most part. The imprint is worn, but you can still make out much of it, and the pen has nice barrel clarity. The pen is fully restored and working well.
The cap band has been engraved "V.E.L." (see photos).
