The Intrigue was one of the most original designs created by Sheaffer during the 1990s. Not only was it produced in some very unique multi-layered finishes, such as the bark-like "stencilled matte black" style seen above, the filling system was complicated and rather revolutionary. The end of the barrel unscrewed to reveal a cylindrical tray into which a cartridge or converter could be dropped. The converter, once installed, was operated by turning the small knob on the end of the barrel. Unfortunately, the special converter is no longer made, so customers should be sure that the pen they buy includes the converter if they don't to be confined to using cartridges. There's a great reference source for the Intrigue on the www.sheaffertarga.com web site.
