Product Description
Type Vintage drawing pencil, working well.
Product Name Unknown
Manufacturer and Year Unknown maker, no marks. The address given on one facet for the US branch of S. S. Steiner was 50 Union Square, and we see they used that address in 1919-1920 so we are dating this pencil to the 1920s.
Length 5-5/16"
Filling System Takes very thick drawing leads, which it extends via the traditional twist mechanism. The mechanism works well to extend the leads, but retracting them requires you to push on the lead. We're not sure about the exact lead size, but we were able to get drafting pencil leads to work, and will include some extra leads.
Color Silver or rhodium plated (the metal is not marked) in an 8 sided faceted design with a sort of barleycorn design on every other face.
Engraving "SIMON H. STEINER HOPFEN G.M.B.H., LAUPHEIM/GERMANY" in blue, and
"S.S. STEINER, INC., HOPS, NEW YORKM 50 UNION SQUARE." in red.
Condition Very nice condition. No cracks or chips, dings or dents. There's some light wear on the finish which mostly just looks like patina, and the blue color in the German imprint is a bit worn. It's working very well.
