Product Description
Type Vintage hard rubber fountain pen
Product Name Waterman 54, as identified by the number at the end of the barrel.
Manufacturer and Year Waterman, USA -- 1920s.
Length 5-7/16"
Filling System Lever filler. A new sac has been installed and tested. It's working well.
Color Black chased hard rubber (BCHR) with a silver colored accommodation clip. There are no pairs of holes or slits to indicate that this pen ever had a Waterman clip installed, and it also lacks a hole in the top of the cap that would suggest it was a ring top. We conclude this was a model sold without a clip, or with an acommodation clip.
Nib Extra Fine Flexible Waterman Ideal New York #4 nib. It is smooth and flexes easily. We feel comfortable calling it just shy of full flex. It has excellent hairlines. Please see the writing sample below. The feed is a bit brown from discoloration and the feed imprint is worn and very hard to read, but it looks like a patent.
Condition Excellent + condition. The chasing is very well defined and the black coloring is very dark and not brown at all. The lever box looks a bit banged up and all of the imprints while legible, are a bit worn. The accommodation clip looks really good. The pen has no dents, cracks, chips, or major marks or scratches. It's working very well.
