Product Description
Type Vintage lever fill fountain pen.
Product Name Thorobred is stamped on the end of the barrel, but the clip suggest it's really a 3V or 32V. We see these "Thorobred" barrels on 3Vs and 32Vs quite a lot.
Manufacturer and Year Waterman, USA, late 1930s
Length Just barely less than 4-1/4"
Filling System Lever filler. We've replaced the sac and it's working perfectly.
Color Lovely shades of grey in a marbled pattern that is vaguely comprised of large blocks, with thin veins of red. The trim is chrome plated. Single thin cap band.
Nib FINE 14k nib is marked "Watermans Ideal" and is flexible. The nib goes from fine to a nice broad. See writing sample. It's not super smooth, but quite nice to write with.
Condition Excellent condition with some lighter scratching here and there, and some light wear on the plating (band and the very tip of the lever). Usually this nickel (?) plated trim is very worn, but it's much nicer on this pen than we usually see. There's a tiny flat mark on the edge of the end of the barrel, but otherwise only minor handwear on the pen. No cracks or chips. All of the imprints are nice and legible. It's looking quite nice and writing well.
