How to prepare a new old stock pen for usage

Sometimes these pens need some coaxing to get started. Even a brand new modern fountain pen can have some factory residue inside which can impede ink flow, and with a new old stock pen this can be an even more troublesome issue.

We've put together some recommendations on how to properly flush and clean your pen before inking it for the first time.

Here is what we recommend:

1. Using lukewarm water, flush the pen repeatedly (at least 4 or 5 times).

2. Prepare a small glass of clean water and add a drop of clear dish soap to it, and flush the pen repeatedly with that.

3. Use plain room temperature water, and flush a few more times to get out the soapy water.

4. Let it dry by placing the pen nib down in an empty glass with a folded tissue paper or paper towel in the bottom, against which the tip of the nib can rest.

If your pen is having ink flow problems after it has ink in it, another trick to get the ink flowing is to hold a paper towel against the nib and letting the ink seep out for awhile. If a pen is particularly stubborn, some people recommend capping the pen and letting it stand in a cup, nib down, for a couple of hours or even overnight.

If the above doesn’t solve the problem, you should return the pen to us for adjustment or replacement. Your pen is guaranteed to work!
