Product Description
Type vintage eyedropper filling system fountain pen
Product Name Swan with an unknown number
Manufacturer and Year Mabie Todd & Co., UK -- 1910s-1920s.
Length 5-1/4" long
Filling System Eyedropper filler.
Color Black hard rubber with gold overlay. It's not hallmarked with regard to the gold content, but that's often the case with items from this era. The main pattern of the pen is a lengthwise "barleycorn" pattern. The pen is personalized "Dr. Cram" in mid-barrel.
Nib FINE 14k Mabie Todd nib. It's very smooth and springy, but doesn't really have flex. It does have excellent tipping material. There's a piece of metal on the top of the nib that is probably the remnant of an overfeed, but the pen writes well without it.
Condition Excellent condition for this lovely eyedropper. There is brassing on the high points of the body, as well as at the end of the barrel from posting the cap and on the cap lip. There is a personalization, "Dr. Cram", in mid barrel. The imprints are clear. It comes in a hardshell case, and while the outer surface of the case is quite banged up, the little locking tab still works and protects the pen quite nicely inside.
