Type Snorkel fountain pen
Product Name Statesman Snorkel
Manufacturer and Year Sheaffer, USA, 1952-9, probably before 1956 since the Burgundy color changed a bit then.
Length 5-5/8"
Filling System Snorkel filler - restored and working perfectly. We'll send instructions on how to use the snorkel filling system.
Color Burgundy body and cap. Gold plated trim. Wide, 3/8", cap band with simple border etched within.
Nib Fine Italic palladium-silver conical Triumph nib with a nice Waverly-style tip (upturned for smoother writing). The nib was ground here at PSP by Nivardo Sanchez. The nib has some give, but be careful as palladium is easy to spring. See writing sample below - the line variation is subtle because it started as a fine, but still evident.
Condition Excellent condition. The cap has microscratching and two shallow scratches running from the end of the clip to the cap band. The cap band is nice and shiny, no plating wear or brassing. The clip and white dot look great. The barrel is overall fairly shiny, with some microscratching and faint horizontal lines from posting, though you have to look pretty hard to see them. Plating wear on the chrome ring that holds the cap on. There are no cracks, chips, dents, or dings. The imprints are clear.
