Product Description
Type Vintage lever filling fountain pen in a very small size.
Product Name Model 40 (it's marked on the end of the barrel)
Manufacturer and Year LeBoeuf, made in USA – circa 1920s
Length capped 4-1/16" (not countaing the ring top), posted it's barely under 5-1/4".
Filling System Lever filler. We've restored it with a new sac and it's working well.
Color Black with gold filled trim. The end of the barrel is threaded to facilitate cap posting – the threads don't catch perfectly but the cap screws on to the barrel securely.
Nib FLEXIBLE FINE LeBoeuf 14k nib. It's very smooth with nice tipping material which is just a little worn on the left tine. Close to fully flexible with easy line variation from fine to a wide broad. There are a couple of scratches on the top of the nib but they do not affect its writing at all. (There's a short crack that runs from the top of the E in "PEN" to the bottom of the K in 14KT. It might have extended all the way to the breather hole at one time, but it looks like it has been repaired. The nib is very sound.) See writing sample below.
Condition Excellent condition, though there are some spots of plating wear and brassing on the corner of the gold top piece and the very edges of the lever. There are some minor scratches here and there on the cap and barrel. The top piece is a little loose and turns. The imprint is a bit worn but you can still see that it says "LeBoeuf Unbreakable Fountain Pen." No cracks or chips, dings or dents, or personalization. (There's a shallow scratch across the barrel threads, but we confirmed this was not a crack and did not extend to the lip of the barrel.) It's fully restored and working well.
