Product Description
Type Vintage telescoping mechanical pencil. The top unscrews for lead storage.
Product Name Unknown
Manufacturer and Year Mabie Todd & Co., USA -- Circa 1860s.
Length 3-1/8" fully retracted, and 4-1/16" fully extended.
Filling System If you hold down the bottom gold piece and twist the barrel, the pencil section will retract and extend. Once extended, you can twist the pencil section to extend and retract the lead. The 0.9mm leads are much too thin and the 1.1mm leads are barely too fat to fit. We do not know what the ideal lead to use is. The lead pushing mechanism does work though.
Color Black hard rubber body with ornate gold filled end pieces. The hard rubber has a paisley-like chased pattern.
Condition Excellent condition. The black hard rubber is a bit discolored but looks good with the gold trim. The gold end pieces look good with a nice patina that shows off the design. The chasing in the hard rubber is still visible as is the imprint, though the imprint is quite worn. It's looking really nice.
