Product Description
Set of 3 new INNER CAP PULLERS.
These are designed to tap the inner cap using a threaded, sharply cut shaft which is turned so as to fully secure the inner cap. Then the disks are turned until they come in contact with the lip of the cap, and further turns will pull the inner cap out. (Cheaper inner cap pullers work by a method which goes into the inner cap and then expands to engage it, which can cause a lot of pressure to the interior of the cap.)
Please do not attempt this repair if you are not experienced, because we can't take responsibility if you crack your cap. Most caps need to be soaked and/or heated in order to loosen any old ink or dirt that has found its way between the inner cap and the cap itself. Moreover, you need to make sure you tap the inner cap correctly so that when the disk comes in contact with the cap lip it does so squarely. The disk/washer is set up with ball bearings so that the disk that contacts the cap lip does not rotate as it applies pressure to the cap lip.
Experienced cap restorers -- and we make no claim to be one -- have recommended that you put a little oil or grease on the inside of the cap below the bottom of the inner cap so that once the inner cap begins to move it can glide out more easily over the greased area.
Each inner cap puller has a different tip so that different sized inner caps can be pulled. You'll need to experiment to see which of the 3 is correct for your cap, we have only minimal experience and cannot advise you. Some inner caps (such as Parkers') cannot be pulled using these tools because the inner cap is not force fit but was secured by some other mechanism.
These pullers are brand new, with no wear to the threads which need to be sharp for easy securing into the inner cap.
