Product Description
Type Fountain Pen. A lot of these early Conway-Stewarts were made of casein, so don't soak it in water or it will melt!
Product Name Conway Stewart 540 aka "Dinkie".
Manufacturer and Year Conway Stewart UK -- c. 1930s
Length 3-7/8" long. So petite!
Filling System The pen fills via a lever. We replaced the bladder and it is working well, and we will guarantee the filling system for a year.
Color Marbled Blue/Black with a peaked cap top. The cap and end finials are black. The trim is gold plated.
Nib 14k Conway Stewart nib is medium-fine with a bit of a stub character, flexible and very smooth. See our writing sample in the photos! Lots of tipping material.
Condition Very nice condition for this dainty little pen. In hand the pen looks quite nice, but under magnification, we see scratches and tooth marks. There is a tiny, shallow chip in the cap lip. It's about 1mm wide and very shallow. (It's visible in the first closeup picture.) There is a fair bit of scratching, though in hand the pen still looks quite nice. The cap band looks good, though the clip and lever bar have a lot of plating wear and brassing. The imprints are nice and clear.
