Product Description
Type Vintage lever filling fountain pen, and mechanical pencil set
Product Name LJ Pen and Mechanical Pencil
Manufacturer and Year Esterbrook, made in USA -- 1950s.
Length The fountain pen is 5"; the mechanical pencil is 4-15/16"
Filling System The fountain pen is a lever filler. We've restored it with a new sac and it's working very well. The pencil takes "thick" (.0446mm) leads.
Color Light green. We believe the original green was what people call fern green even though Esterbrook called all their greens, "Green." Steel trim and black jewels on all ends.
Nib MEDIUM FIRM #2668 steel nib is smooth with lots of tipping and a really nice looking feed. The 2000 series of nibs don't have any tipping material. Instead the tines are bent for a "DuraChrome" point. The 2668 nib is cataloged as Firm Medium for general writing.
Condition Excellent condition for this pretty fountain pen and pencil set that rests in its original red cardboard box with ecru satin lining with attached owner's instructions. The fountain pen and cap have moderate scratching throughout. The cap has a dark line that might seem like a crack, but we think it is just a line that follows the pattern of the material from the end of the clip down through the cap ring, and does not reach the lip. The cap has some scratches around the clip and to the right of the bottom of the clip. The section looks nice. The pencil has light to moderate scratching throughout. The trim on the pen shows signs of wear. The trim on the pencil is in excellent condition. The imprint on the pen is faded but readable whereas the imprint on the pencil is crystal clear. The box has some torn ends and a bit of staining on the inside. The pen has a personalization on the barrel, "Bell System Property", which is very hard to see.
