Product Description
Type Full size fountain pen with a very flexible nib
Product Name This pen is only imprinted with an advertising on the cap -- Hagerstown Bank, Hagerstown, MD. The nib is genericaly marked. We've had a similarly imprinted BCHR pen that was an eye dropper filler.
Manufacturer and Year Unknown, probably teens or 1920s. (The chasing pattern is the one called Scallop #3 and was used by Gem, MacKinnon, Parker, Sheaffer, and Waterman. See this incredibly helpful page on chasing on Richard Binder's site.)
Length 5-3/8"
Filling System Matchstick filler. You operate the system by rotating the ring on the barrel and exposing the small round hole, then depressing the pressure bar via a matchstick while holding the pen tip in ink. We cleaned and re-sacked and tested the pen and it works very well.
Color Black chased hard rubber with no clip.
Nib Very flexible Warranted #3 14k nib .... excellent flex, just short of a wet noodle. Lots of tipping material and a nice fine point. There's a short stable hairline crack at the base which starts at the "3" and runs into the section. See writing sample below.
Condition Superior restored condition. The color is just a bit less than dark black and the chasing is nicely crisp. No cracks or bite marks.
