Product Description
Type vintage lever filling fountain pen with a flexible nib.
Product Name 42 (the model number is visible on the end of the barrel).
Manufacturer and Year Mabie Todd & Co., New York (the clip is from England) -- 1930s
Length 5-5/16" (this is the large size corresponding to the 4 in the 42 model number)
Filling System Lever filler. We've restored it with a new sac and it's working well.
Color Black chased hard rubber (BCHR) with a 1/2" cap band and an accommodation clip. (We don't see any indication of a missing installed clip, so this was probably a clip-less model to begin with.) The cap band is gold filled with a floral design and the accommodation clip looks like a well worn nickel plated one.
Nib FLEXIBLE EXTRA FINE 14k Swan #2 nib. It's very smooth with good tipping. It's got very nice line variation and hairlines. See our writing sample below. Please note that there is an imprint toward the end of the barrel that says POSTING, which may refer to the nib.
Condition Excellent condition. The chasing is weak and the hard rubber is a bit discolored. The cap band has plating wear around the edges. The imprints are all legible, including the ones on the worn accommodation clip. The design on the cap band has held up really well. The barrel has bulged around the lever pin. The pen is fully restored and working well.
