Product Description
Type vintage eyedropper fountain pen with a flexible nib.
Product Name 5573 SF, as marked at the end of the barrel. This uses the 1908 number system, which changed in 1911. 5573 indicates a #5 nib on a plain pen with a fine point. The SF stands for "self filler" which in this case means eyedropper.
Manufacturer and Year Mabie Todd & Co., New York -- 1908-1911, based off of the number code.
Length Just over 5-5/8"
Filling System Eyedropper pen. It has been tested and cleaned. It is working well with no leaks.
Color Black chased hard rubber (BCHR). The chasing has a large fletching pattern.
Nib FLEXIBLE EXTRA FINE 14k Mabie Todd #5 nib. It is marked "33" around the over the nib part of the "plug" feed. Plug feeds have long metal wires coming out of the section that reach far into the barrel. The tines spread easily for good line variation. According to the number at the end of the pen, it has a fine point, but it definitely has an extra or even an extra extra fine point. See the writing sample below. Not full flex, but you get excellent hairlines.
Condition Superior condition. The pen looks great with a clear main barrel imprint and a clear end of barrel imprint. The chasing is strongly delineated and looks great. There is some handwear. The pen is nicely dark. The primary "wear" is that there is an outline of an accommodation clip on the cap. It's quite faint but it is there.
