Product Description
Type Vintage Desk Pen with a beautiful pale green stone base.
Product Name Eternal
Manufacturer and Year Mabie Todd & Co., New York -- circa late 1920s.
Length 8-3/16" with tail attached; 5-3/8" without tail attached.
Filling System Lever filler. We've restored it with a new sac and it's working well.
Color Black with three gold bands on the barrel. The base is light green stone, and there is a more detailed description below.
Nib FINE 14k Swan Eternal #4 nib. There are some scratches on the top of the nib. The left tine has a groove worn it, suggesting that it was used against a rule to draw lines. Neither of these affect the pen's function, and we've tested it and it's working well.
Condition Excellent condition with no cracks, chips, dents, or dings. This is a long, elegant desk pen with a very attractive and functional base. Fountain pen: The section and barrel have light to moderate scratching. The lever has splotches of plating wear. The trim bands have plating wear near the lever bar, but otherwise just some microscratching. The long black tail has quite a bit of scratching that dulls the surface somewhat, as well as some small tooth marks towards the end. Base: The base is large and heavy. It's kind of pear-shaped, but with rounded corners instead of sharp angles. The dimensions are about 7-1/2" x 6" at the widest part of the triangle, and it's about 1" tall. About half of the surface is an oval well for desk miscellanea like paper clips, erasers, stamps, rings, and surprise! A Sailor Pro Gear Slim pen just fits at the widest part (4-7/8"). It's made of a semi-translucent pale green stone (possibly agate?) with some white and golden-brown marbling. The "trumpet" that holds the pen has a small chip out of the edge, and there's a detailed shot of this in the photos. The stone's surface has some scratching and small imperfections, but no serious cracks or chips. The felt on the bottom is intact.
