Product Description
Type Small cartridge fill fountain pen
Product Name Meisterstuck Solitaire Nikolai I Vermeil, in the "Mozart" size.
Manufacturer and Year Montblanc, Germany/France -- 2000. This thread on FPN mentions that some of the Montblanc Solitaire models were made in France. The clip band on this one says "France", which is correct. The serial number on the pen matches the serial number on the service booklet.
Length Just under 4-1/2" with cap on, 4-11/16" posted. The cap posts securely with threads at the end of the barrel.
Filling System The pen requires Montblanc cartridges ONLY; no converter is available for this pen.
Color The barrel is vermeil - gold plating over sterling silver. The cap is gold-plated with malachite (which is made of malachite dust mixed with resin, and painstakingly painted on in a pattern that matches a typical banding pattern of the mineral). Green section.
Nib Medium 18k Montblanc 4810 nib. We believe that the nib was dipped, but that the pen was never inked.
Condition Near Mint in Box condition, with paperwork. We believe that the pen was dipped, but never actually inked. There is slight scratching and some polishing marks on the barrel and trim. There is also a line of scratching near the end of the barrel where the cap has been posted and the lip has contacted (see note below). No cracks or chips or brassing on the trim.
NOTE: The booklet included is marked with the correct information for this pen, indicating that it was purchased in 2004. The pen was originally made in 2000, and it's likely that it was tried out for size in the boutique just enough times over the years to cause the slight line of light scratching we see near the end of the barrel.
