Type Limited Edition Fountain Pen
Product Name Montblanc Writers Edition Voltaire. This page has an overview of many of the Writer's Edition releases over the years. #07563/20000 (15000 were sold individually and 5000 were sold in sets).
Manufacturer and Year Montblanc, Germany -- 1995.
Length 5-13/16".
Filling System Piston filler.
Color Tapered black pen with a rounded cap end. There are three bands of decreasing width and detailing. The widest band, at the top of the cap, is 1/2" wide and has large leaves on it. The two cap bands are vermeil - 925 sterling silver with gold plating over it. Voltaire's signature is reproduced to the right of the clip. The pen has a gray tinted viewing window.
Nib Medium 18k nib. It's very smooth and writes like a narrow fine. We generally find Montblanc nibs to run narrow. The nib is slightly springy and is decorated with a diamond and squares pattern. The nib size sticker is still attached to the barrel.
Condition Near mint condition, in box. There is a faint scratch near the end of the barrel, about 3/4" long. The rest of the barrel has microscratching, and very light handling wear. The pen was dipped in ink, but we don't find much evidence indicating that it was actually inked. The vermeil bands (at the top of the cap and near the cap lip) have tiny bits of patina on the gold plating, but otherwise look great. There is no brassing or plating wear on the clip and the rest of the trim. Overall, the pen looks great, but it doesn't quite look brand new. The pen ships in a Montblanc Writers Edition Voltaire box. The mechanism that would normally keep the box closed is misaligned somehow, and the box won't snap closed or open fully; the way it's pictured below is how it looks. The imprints are crisp and clear.
