Product Name Montblanc Writers Edition Alexandre Dumas. This is the rare "son" variant - see note below for more details.
Manufacturer and Year Montblanc, Germany -- 1996.
Length 5-5/16".
Filling System The pencil uses a twist mechanism and takes 0.7mm leads.
Color Deep brown cap, section, and end piece with a white marble body. It has lots of gold plated trim and the fine bands have designs. Alexandre Dumas's (the incorrect one, the son's) signature is to the right of the clip.
Condition Near mint condition, in box with paperwork. No cracks, chips, dents, or dings. This is a beautifully designed and elegant pencil that is substantial and impressive. The marbling is really gorgeous -- it has some light wear but no noticeable scratches. The cap has light wear. The numbering and signature are perfectly intact. The brown area near the tip and cone have light wear. The ornate gold bands and pieces outlining the marbling look beautiful. The cap band is excellent. The clip and clip band are lovely. The imprints are clear. The box is in excellent condition. The outer cardboard box, which includes stickers indicating the son's signature, has some storage wear, but is largely in good shape.
NOTE: The Dumas model had an initial design error where it included the wrong Alexandre Dumas's signature on the cap; the son's signature was used, rather than the more famous father's signature. Both of the Dumas men were well-known writers in their time, but it was the father who authored "The Three Musketeers" and "The Count of Monte Cristo". This pencil is from the errant batch, with the son's signature. The company recalled the incorrect units when the error was discovered, but some had already been sold and are therefore rare. The pencil is number 6038/9000, marked near the top of the cap. A comparison of the signatures and a description of what happened can be found here.
