Product Description
Type Fountain Pen
Product Name 400
Manufacturer and Year Pelikan, Germany. - early 1950s. This model was made between 1950 - 1956, and the lack of an imprint on the cap band suggests 1950-54.
Length Fountain pen is 4-5/16"
Filling System Piston filling system. Tested and working well.
Color "Grey-striped" - the barrel is clear with lengthwise stripes that we believe were called "grey striped", but have faded a bit over time to a lighter tortoiseshell color. We don't believe that it was green-striped, because that color started quite a bit darker, and the cap and piston knob do not show similar fading. It's not the tortoise brown striped, because that one had brown cap/section/piston knob, and the light tortoise variants have either a full tortoise or brown cap. Gold plated trim.
Nib OBB (oblique double-broad) 14k nib. Smooth and with great tipping material.
Condition Excellent condition. The barrel has marks from the cap edge, and light scratching all over. The piston knob has moderate scratching. The section has scratching and some scuff marks on one side. The cap band has brassing on the lower edge. The clip has plating wear along the sides. The cap has scratching and some small shallow dents near the cap band. The Pelikan icon on top of the cap looks good, though the paint is missing. The imprints are clear.
