Product Description
Type Sleeve fill fountain pen
Product Name Rexall Self-Filler 52
Manufacturer and Year Rexall/United Drug, but someone else (Monogram?) undoubtedly made their pens, USA - circa 1920s-30s
Length 5-3/16"
Filling System Sleeve-filler - it's basically a mechanical ink sac squeezing system, but the end of the barrel is a sleeve that pulls out to reveal the sac and pressure bar. Insert the nib and part of the section into the ink, press and release the pressure bar a couple of times, waiting about 3-5 seconds between each squeeze. Remove the pen from the ink, wipe off excess ink, and move the sleeve back into place to keep you from accidentally squirting ink out. We installed a new sac and tested the system and it's working very well.
Color Black chased hard rubber. The chasing is fairly crisp, and the black is just very slightly faded. No trim.
Nib Medium, flexible, stubbed 14k Warranted nib. It's smooth and soft, and you'll get a nice broad line and easily flex to double or triple-broad with minimal pressure. See our writing sample in the photos.
Condition Excellent + condition. The color is nice and dark, and mostly even throughout the pen - just a tiny bit of difference where the cap covers the section and barrel. The chasing pattern is strong and clear. No cracks or chips. The imprint is clear and easily read.
