Product Description
Type Vintage lever filling fountain pen, restored and working well.
Product Name "Flat Top" 5-30 (the nib has the imprint) in the junior size. We usually see the jade green 5-30 model with black bands on either end, but this lacks them. There was a 5-30 in the 1928 world wide catalog, but it had two thin cap bands.
Manufacturer and Year Sheaffer, made in USA -- circa 1928
Length 4-9/16 inches long.
Filling System Lever filler. We've restored it with a new sac and it's working very well.
Color Jade green radite barrel and cap with 1/4" cap band and gold filled trim. Excellent color.
Nib MEDIUM Sheaffer's 5-30 gold nib is smooth and firm.
Condition Very nice condition. There are light scratches and handwear on the pen. The barrel color is darker than the cap, with areas of a brownish-green at both ends of the barrel. The imprint is crisp. Lever bar has brassing and plating wear on the sides and around the open end. The cap band has some small dents; the plating looks quite nice here. There is a small (3/32" - halfway between 1/16" and 1/8" long) crack in the cap lip; it doesn't reach the cap band so with careful use it should remain stable. The clip has some marks near the top. There's a scratch on the top of the cap that looks like a Z or an N. The ball end of the clip is quite brassed. There are some very shallow bite marks on the top of the cap and the end of the barrel. The pen has been fully restored and it's working very well.
