Type Lever-filling vintage fountain pen and pencil set
Product Name They're both Balance models. The fountain pen is marked 350 and the pencil is marked 250.
Manufacturer and Year Sheaffer USA - circa mid 1930s (they introduced this style clip in about 1934).
Length The pen is 4-7/8" and the pencil is 4-13/16"
Filling System The fountain pen is a lever filler that's been restored with a new sac. The mechanical pencil is uses a twist mechanism and extends and retracts well. It takes 0.9mm leads.
Color Carmine (red and black) striated celluloid, with gold plated trim and the humped, flattened ball style clip.
Nib FINE #3 14k fine nib is in excellent condition, it feels smooth, and has very uniform tipping material.
Condition Excellent condition, with plating wear. The fountain pen has some brassing on the cap band and the top of the clip. The pencil has wear on the cone and the edge of the flattened ball in the clip. Both have some handwear and have been personalized, "R.T." The imprints are crisp and there are no cracks or dents.
