Product Description
Type Vintage combination fountain pen and mechanical pencil
Product Name Balance 5-30 Combo
Manufacturer and Year Sheaffer, USA, 1930s. Combos made by the better pen companies are very hard to find .... you'll find lots of combos made by second and third tier makers, but very few were produced by the Sheaffer, Parker, et al.
Length 6-1/16" capped.
Filling System Lever filler - we installed a new sac. The pencil end takes 1.1mm (or "thick") leads, which it extends via the traditional twist-mechanism. We'll include a small packet of leads.
Color Black and pearl celluloid with gold filled trim
Nib FINE 14k 5-30 nib is in nice condition, with a good amount of tipping material.
Condition Very nice condition. There are a few small cracks in the surface of the finish on the cap. One reaches to where the clip is anchored in the cap (you can sort of see it in extending to the right in photos of the cap below) but the others start and end within floating cream colored parts of the cap, without touching any edges, so we don't expect them to spread but they have a slightly yellowish tinge to them. There are small scratches on the cap and barrel, along with lesser handwear. Some small bits of brassing on the ball of the clip, and a couple of tiny spots on the cap band (see photos) and on the cone. Still this large combo pen is looking quite nice, it's still fairly shiny, especially the gold trim.
It's personalized with the engraving R.E.S. on the barrel.
