Product Description
Type Snorkel fountain pen and pencil set
Product Name Clipper Snorkel Set in a hard-to-find color
Manufacturer and Year Sheaffer, made in U.S.A. -- 1952-59.
Length Pen is 5-1/2", pencil is right at 5".
Filling System The fountain pen is a snorkel filler, which is working very well after we restored it with a new sac, O-ring, and point gasket. The pencil takes 0.9mm leads which it extends via the traditional twist mechanism. It's working well, and we'll include a small pack of leads.
Color Fiesta Red (bright orange-red color) bodies with chrome plated caps and gold plated trim. This is one of the six colors considered most collectible. The Fiesta Red and Vermilion colors are difficult to tell apart, especially considering that in ~60 years there is the possibility of fading, but Fiesta Red is correct for the Clipper model which was not made in Vermillion.
Nib FINE palladium-silver Sheaffer's Triumph style nib is smooth and firm with nice tipping material. Nib is marked F4, indicating width and material. The nib has a gentle "Waverly" upturn, not dramatic.
Condition Excellent + condition. The set is a beautiful bright color, and both the pen and pencil are shiny and look great. The fountain pen has some signs of light usage, with light scratching on the cap. The sticker indicating nib width is also attached to the section. The knurling on the blind cap is in perfect condition. The mechanical pencil looks almost new with just light scratching on the cap. The cigar band sticker showing original price is still attached to the pencil. Both caps, clips, and trim are gorgeous. No cracks, chips, dings, or dents. The imprints are clear. In Sheaffer box, with original instruction booklet. The box also has the foil tag with the model description and original price for the set.
