Product Description
Type Snorkel fountain pen and pencil set
Product Name Clipper Snorkel Set in a hard-to-find color
Manufacturer and Year Sheaffer, made in U.S.A. -- 1952-59.
Length Pen is 5-9/16", pencil is just over 5".
Filling System The fountain pen is a snorkel filler, which is working very well after we restored it with a new sac, O-ring, and point gasket. The pencil takes 0.9mm leads which it extends via the traditional twist mechanism. It's working well, and we'll include a small pack of leads.
Color Fiesta Red (bright orange-red color) bodies with chrome plated caps and gold plated trim. This is one of the six colors considered most collectible. The Fiesta Red and Vermilion colors are difficult to tell apart, especially considering that in ~60 years there is the possibility of fading, but Fiesta Red is correct for the Clipper model which was not made in Vermillion.
Nib MEDIUM palladium-silver Sheaffer's Triumph style nib is smooth and firm with nice tipping material. Nib is marked M4, indicating width and material. The nib has a gentle "Waverly" upturn, not dramatic.
Condition Excellent + condition. The set is a beautiful bright color, and both the pen and pencil are shiny and look great. The fountain pen has some signs of light usage, with some minor scratches on the cap. Pen also has sticker indicating nib width on the section. The mechanical pencil looks new with a perfect unscratched cap and foil tag. Pencil has cigar band sticker showing original price. Both caps, clips, and trim are gorgeous. No cracks, chips, dings, or dents. The imprints are clear. In Sheaffer box.
