Product Name Model #879, Sheaffer Levenger Balance II Special Edition from the revival series of the 1930s Balance pens.
Manufacturer and Year Sheaffer, made in USA -- 1997-99.
Length 5-3/4 inches.
Filling System Takes Sheaffer style cartridges, or you can fill it with bottled ink via the included piston converter.
Color Olive green and yellow with black and red tones. The acrylic is a bit like the vintage candy stripe patterns. It has a pair of 1/16" cap bands and 22k electroplated trim.
Nib Fine 18k nib. Sheaffer's Feather Touch nib is smooth and springy with nice tipping material. The palladium masking is in great condition.
Condition Excellent + condition. Some pitting on the nib collar, otherwise the pen is near mint. These Sheaffer Balance II models are very prone to cracking from posting and from pulling on the clip. This pen doesn't have any cracks. There is some plating wear on the band at the front end of the section, but the rest of the trim looks great and the material is consistently semi-transparent. We've cleaned and tested it and it's working very well.
Please note that this pen is extremely hard to find without any cracks. We have carefully inspected it, and can't find any. Having said that, we strongly suggest that you treat this pen even more gently than you treat the rest of your fine pen collection. Be especially careful with the clip and the cap. Do not pull on the clip, or the stress will cause a crack. Similarly, the cap lip will crack very easily if the cap is posted, even though there are no cracks now.
