Product Description
Type Vintage fountain pen in superior working condition
Product Name Sheaffer Lifetime flat top (not an actual product line name, these flat top pens had numbers).
Manufacturer and Year Sheaffer, USA -- late 1920s - 1930s. The barrel imprint was made until around 1927, and this clip was introduced in the 1930s. During that period, the White Dot represented a lifetime guarantee, and it's possible that the cap or barrel was replaced.
Length 5-7/16" .... full length and slender
Filling System Lever filler - working perfectly with a good sac, just replaced here at Peyton Street Pens.
Color Black radite (early celluloid). Gold plated trim. There is a white dot on the top of the cap.
Nib FINE Sheaffer's Lifetime gold nib is in excellent condition. It has a nice shape, and the serial number 3044206 is stamped on it. Light tarnishing on the sides of the nib, but this does not affect the pen's function.
Condition Excellent condition. Microscratching and handwear all over, but overall the impression is fairly smooth and shiny. Light rings near the front of the barrel, from capping. There's a single mark of pitting in the same area as well. Beyond those, there are no serious scratches or cracks. Coloring is really dark and even, no fading. The plating looks really good, almost no plating wear or brassing on the clip, cap band, or lever. The imprint is slightly worn, but still easily readable and clear. Pen is personalized with the initials "P.J.N." on the barrel.
