Product Description
Type Substantial, full size vintage fountain pen in great cosmetic and working condition.
Product Name Sheaffer "Flat Top" (The body, nib and cap indicate the pen was a Lifetime model).
Manufacturer and Year Sheaffer USA - late 1920s, with a high mounted clip.
Length 5-1/4"
Filling System Lever filler - working perfectly with a new sac.
Color Jade Green. The color is a very pale green. Black section. Gold plated trim. There is a white dot on top of the flat end of the cap.
Nib Extra-extra-fine gold Lifetime Nib with serial number 1408845. The nib is really large, but also very very fine and quite firm. You'll need to use a VERY light hand with this, and even so it may be scratchy. We spent some extra time on this nib and it's definitely evenly aligned, but such a small point contacting the paper means you need really minimal pressure or you'll tear the paper.
Condition Very nice condition. The barrel has ambered a bit and is a much warmer hue than the cap. The cap and barrel have light to moderate scratching. The top of the cap, including the white dot, has moderate to heavy scratching; the white dot itself is intact and evenly colored. The cap has some small tooth marks. There is plating wear on the sides of the clip, and some brassing around the ball end. The cap band has brassing along the edges, and an area of denting near some of the tooth marks. The cap lip is smooth and even. The section has scratching and some tool marks. There is some ink staining in the cap threads, and the barrel has marks caused by capping. The lever has microscratching and some plating wear along the edges and near the top. The end of the barrel has moderate to heavy scratching. The imprints are clear.
The barrel is personalized with the name "HOMER E. PADEN".
