Product Description
Type Vintage lever filling ring top fountain pen with a flexible nib, restored and working well.
Product Name Self-Filling (aka "Flat Top") #2 pen in ring top form.
Manufacturer and Year Sheaffer, made in USA - 1918-21 (those were the years this "big S" imprint was used).
Length 3-7/16" not including the ring top hardwear.
Filling System Lever filler. We've restored it with a new sac and it's working very well.
Color Black chased hard rubber with gold plated trim.
Nib FINE FLEXIBLE gold Sheaffer's #2 nib. Very soft feeling, just short of full flex. See writing sample below.
Condition Excxellent condition with no cracks or chips. The only real flaw is a quantity of shallow bite marks on the top gold piece. This is a small, shiny pen with excellent chasing and nice, consistent dark chocolate brown coloring. The barrel has marks caused by the cap lip and moderate scratching at the end of the barrel. The lever has a bit of plating wear and pitting on the left edge. The very top of the cap has plating wear on the surface but the ring itself looks good. The imprints are clear.
