Product Description
Type Snorkel fountain pen and pencil set
Product Name Sentinel Snorkel Set, first year models
Manufacturer and Year Sheaffer, made in U.S.A. -- 1952-53, as identified by the 14k snorkel tube.
Length Fountain pen is 5-9/16" and the pencil is 5-1/16".
Filling System The fountain pen is a snorkel filler, which is working very well after we restored it with a new sac, O-ring, and point gasket. The pencil takes 0.9mm leads which it extends via the traditional twist mechanism. It's working well and has an eraser beneath the cap.
Color Black bodies with the Sentinel caps. They have stainless steel caps with gold plated trim. The steel has a lined pattern.
Nib ITALIC 14k gold Sheaffer's Triumph style nib is smooth and firm. We believe this is a factory stub or italic nib, it doesn't appear to be a nib which was given a nib grind. It is two-toned with excellent masking, and has a slight "Waverly" upturn. See the writing sample below.
Condition Excellent condition. The fountain pen has handwear and microscratching on the barrel and cap. The grooves on the blind cap look fantastic - they're crisp and well defined, with no tooth marks. The pencil also has light handwear. The pencil's clip has somes cratching on the open end, but is otherwise in great shape. Both White Dots are present and nearly perfect. The fountain pen is fully restored, and both pen and mechanical pencil are working very well. Ships in Sheaffer Snorkel box, with original instructional leaflet.
