Product Description
Type Touchdown filling fountain pen, restored and working well.
Product Name Sentinel Touchdown TM (this is the slender version WITHOUT the snorkel filling system).
Manufacturer and Year Sheaffer, made in USA – this thin Touchdown version was made from 1950-52.
Length 5-1/4"
Filling System Touchdown filling system. We've restored it with a new sac and O-ring. We'll include instructions on how to use this filling system.
Color Black body, stainless steel cap with a pattern of stepped lines in it and gold plated trim.
Nib FINE two-tone conical Triumph nib is 14k with a bit of an upturn on the tip. It's smooth with nice tipping.
Condition Very nice condition. There is some user wear, and the cap is a bit dull. The Sheaffer imprint is readable, though somewhat worn. The pen is fully restored and is working well. The really interesting feature of this pen is that it has Sheaffer's "Rule of Four" printed in gold on it, as a mnemonic device for retail sales clerks and salepeople. Those rules are:
1. Large 14k Gold Point
Feathertouch Point For Every Hand
2. Screw Cap Humidor
For Instant Writing
3. New-matic Touchdown Filler
One Stroke Filling
4. Sure Grip Spring Clip
Prevents Loss
The last rule is the most handworn and is a bit difficult to read. Clearly, we can't polish the barrel to a shinier finish without losing the imprinted information. This rare piece will be a great addition to your collection of pen advertising history!
