Type Vintage Sheaffer Ballpoint Pen
Product Name Stratowriter, this is the first Sheaffer ballpoint. It has the tip protector which slides onto the tip and protects your clothing if the tip leaks. The original refills were prone to leaking, but this modified version of of the Stratowriter takes modern Sheaffer refills which do not leak.

Filling System The pen works by pushing down on the top button and then slightly turning it to lock the refill into extended mode. To retract the tip, push lightly then turn it back to its original position.
This pen originally took the screw in Stratowriter refills which are no longer made. A widget has been installed in the tip which allows you to use modern Parker-style refills. In addition to the widget, there is a plastic piece (aka Doober) inserted into the top of the modern Sheaffer refill to hold it in the right place for the locking mechanism in the pen to work. Please remember to keep this attachment when changing refills. See the photo below. A working refill is installed

Condition Excellent condition with no cracks or chips. This is a very shiny, smooth, gold pen that is long and elegant. The surface has microscratching with some heavier scratch lines where the tip protector is located (caused by removing and replacing it). There is also some heavier scratching on the depresser caused by usage. The cap also has microscratching. The imprints are clear.
