Product Description
Type Fountain pen with piston filling system
Product Name Homo Sapiens Demo Stones Sapphire.
Manufacturer and Year Visconti Pen Company, Italy -- 2020s. We've read in some places that the Demo Stones were supposed to be a regular addition to the Homo Sapiens line, but they're not currently shown anywhere on Visconti's web site.
Length 5-3/4"
Filling System "Power filler" - per Visconti: To fill the ink reservoir of a pen with the High Vacuum Power Filler system (patented by Visconti in 1993), first unscrew the blind cap and pull out the plunger completely. Watch out for possible ink spillage if the pen is full. Then, proceed with the complete immersion of the nib in the ink; in one fluid motion, press the plunger downwards, and count to five, to give the pen time to charge. At this point, all you need to do is remove the pen from the ink, screw the cap back on with the nib facing downwards and remove the excess ink from the nib with absorbent paper. We have tested the system and it's working very well.
Color Clear sapphire blue resin, with silver colored trim and a blue agate stone set in the cap.
Nib FINE 14k gold nib. The previous owner told us that this pen had an architect grind, but we can't see any trace of a grind on the nib, and when we tested the pen there was no evidence of line variation. It is a soft and springy nib.
Condition Excellent + condition, in box with paperwork. Under magnification, we see light scratching on the cap and barrel, but the pen appears quite shiny and attractive in hand. The clip has some microscratching on the face; the enamel fill on the sides of the clip looks perfect. The two trim bands on the cap have light scratching. The stone on top of the cap looks perfect. The section and barrel have light scratching. The silver trim band between the section and barrel has light scratching; some of the black that fills in the "Homo Sapiens" imprint is missing. No individual scratches are visible on the cap or barrel. Comes in original Visconti box with booklet in a tray below the platform. The outer shell of the box looks great, and the sticker matches the pen's description.
