Product Description
Type Vintage fountain pen and pencil set in original box.
Product Name This is one of the Gold Seal models, part of the Equi-poised line.
Manufacturer and Year Wahl Eversharp, USA - early 1930s
Length Pen is 5", pencil is just a tiny bit shorter.
Filling System Lever filler, restored here at PSP with a new sac. The pencil takes 1.1mm (or "thick") leads, which it extends via the traditional twist mechanism. As is often the case with these Eversharp pencils it extends leads properly, but to retract them you will have to push with your finger.
Color "Kashmir" green and black marbled finish with gold plated trim, gold seals, and triple cap bands with a patterned "rhomboid" band in the middle and a thinner band on either side.
Nib EXTRA FINE Eversharp 14k nib is firm and in nice condition. It has good tipping remaining. The feed is marked with an M, but the nib is certainly finer than a medium, so either the nib or the feed may have been switched.
Condition Very nice condition, but the celluloid has some flaws. There's a small crack in the threads of the pen barrel, as well as a tiny chip and crack in the lip of the cap (see photos). Neither of these cracks seem to be a problem, as the barrel is still holding the section firmly, and the cap screws on well, we just don't recommend posting this cap. There's another small crack in the top of the pen's cap, but this has no affect on the use of the pen. The gold ring on the end of the barrel is missing. The trim is quite good, only a tiny spot of brassing on the lever, and another on the upper clip. The pencil has similar light scratching, a small crack in the mid cap, and a couple of cracks in the lower barrel, none of which extend to touch anything, so they seem secure. There's just some very light scratching on the trim of the pencil. Both pieces are working well, with nice imprints that are still readable. They're a beautiful set, in their original box.
The barrels of the pen and the pencil are engraved with the initials H. J. H.
