Product Description
Type VIntage lever filling fountain pen and mechanical pencil, restored and working well.
Product Name Ink-Vue, Blue Streak version.
Manufacturer and Year Waterman, made in USA -- circa 1938-40 (it has real gold plated cap bands and the style of clip made prior to the military clip).
Length The pen is 5 inches and the pencil is just barely shorter.
Filling System The pen is a lever filler which we have restored with a new sac, and tested to ensure that it's working perfectly. The pencil takes 1.1mm (or "Thick") leads which it extends via an early cap-actuated system (you click down the cap to extend the lead, just like most modern pencils). We'll include a small packet of extra leads.
Color Brown striped Blue Streak color (striped with thin dark blue pinstripes), also known as Copper Pearl. Gold plated trim with tripple cap bands and the version of the clip made just prior to the introduction of the military clip in 1940.
Nib FLEXIBLE MEDIUM Waterman's Ideal 14k gold nib is smooth with lovely tipping material. It's about what we would call fully flexible, with easy line variation from a smaller medium line to a nice broad under very little pressure, and a bit more with slightly greater pressure. See our writing sample below.
Condition The pen is in excellent condition except for a tiny crack in the cap lip, which stops short at the first band, so we do not expect it to be a problem, however we do not recommend posting the pen. There are small marks of brassing on the shoulders of the clip and on the lever, though it's very subtle. There are some very minor scratches here and there, but very little real wear. The end of the pen's barrel shows a minor degree of color change. The imprint is clear and readable, and there are no chips, dings, dents, or personalizations. The pen has been fully restored and it's working very well.
The pencil has some slight marks and scratches, and many small surface cracks on its barrel, though it's working very well. The set has been priced accordingly, with the pencil's inclusion only slightly affecting the cost of the set.
