Product Description
Type Fountain and ballpoint pen set.
Product Name Aurora Optima "Sole" limited edition, the fountain pen is #6390/7500 and the ballpoint is #5901/7500.
Manufacturer and Year Aurora, Italy -- 1996.
Length The fountain pen measures 5" and the ballpoint pen measures 5-1/8".
Filling System The fountain pen is a piston filler. It has a viewing window to see ink amounts and utilizes a "hidden reservoir" feature where you can eke out an extra page of writing after turning the piston all the way to the left. It is not an actual reservoir and is just pushing the last of the ink in the barrel into the feed. The ballpoint pen takes Parker-style ballpoint refills. A working black refill is installed.
Color Called yellow auroloide, it is more like a marbled golden orange than a sunny yellow (sole is Italian for sun). It has black end pieces and gold plated trim.
Nib Medium Cursive italic 18k nib. It looks like it started as a broad but based on our writing sample, it writes more like a medium. It has good line variation, nothing radical or dramatic. See the writing sample below.
Condition Near mint condition with only very light handwear. These Optimas are famous for having cracks in the resin at the end of the barrel, and so we gave the fountain pen a thorough test and inspection and found no dents or dings or cracks. Both pens have great transparency when held to the light. The ballpoint pen has a little wear on the cap band above the cone but it's really minor compared to how worn the cones on ballpoints can get. Ship with Sole box, paperwork, and sealed bottle of ink. It looks like it's black ink.
