Type Lever filling fountain pen and mechanical pencil set.
Product Name Conway Stewart 24/23 (The fountain pen is #24, and the mechanical pencil is #23. Both imprints are very clear and easy to read.)
Manufacturer and Year Conway Stewart, made in England -- circa 1950s
Length The fountain pen is about 5-/8", and the mechanical pencil is 4-1/4"
Filling System Lever filler. We replaced the bladder and it is working well. We guarantee the filling system for a year from the date of purchase. The mechanical pencil takes 1.1mm leads, which extend and retract by twisting the cap.
Color "Burgundy Hatched", it's got a lot of individual "chunks" of burgundy and black stripes. Gold plated trim, and the pen's cap jewel is black painted over metal. The pencil's jewel appears to be gold painted.
Nib Fine flexible 14k nib, marked "Conway Stewart 14ct Gold". Smooth and flexible, though not a lot of line variation, only from fine to medium-broad. See our writing sample below in the photos.
Condition Excellent condition. There is light to moderate scratching on both pieces. The fountain pen looks great, with just light scratching on the cap and body. The clip has brassing, and there's some plating wear along the sides. The cap jewel looks great, and has all of the original paint. The cap bands have light brassing. There is scratching on the barrel from the cap lip. There are some tool marks on the front edge of the section, nearest the nib. The lever has brassing and some plating wear along the sides. The mechanical pencil also looks really nice. The cap jewel looks like it was painted gold, and some of the paint is missing. There is light brassing and pitting wear on the clip and clip ring. The cap bands have brassing. The cone has brassing and blotches of plating wear. The imprints on both pieces are clear and easy to read. Ships in small Conway Stewart box. The box looks really great - the outer paper has a nice color and texture. The inner platform is satin covered, and provides a lovely resting place for the set.
