Product Description
Type Lever fill fountain pen
Product Name Conway Stewart Model 388
Manufacturer and Year Conway Stewart, made in England -- 1950s (they started making this model in the 1930s, but this looks like the 1950s version of the imprint)
Length 4-7/8"
Filling System Lever fill fountain pen
Color Burgundy and black marble pattern. The color is faded so it's a nice creamy red brown. It has three cap bands and a black domed end piece above the clip and a matching black flat end piece on the barrel. It has gold plated trim.
Nib 14k Fine. The nib has a bit of flex to it. See writing sample. The nib says 5N.
Condition Very Nice Condition. There is a separation crack in the barrel, which you can see in the first picture. It follows a seam in the material, so we believe it is a separation crack, not caused by trauma to the pen. We were able to pull the section and re-sac the pen without making the crack worse, however you should treat this pen gently, and it will probably remain stable and not grow. The black cap top looks great. There is some plating wear on the edges of the clip and lever. No bite marks on either the cap or the barrel. The imprint is worn, but still readable.
