Product Description
Type Fountain Pen .... made of casein, so don't soak it in water or it will melt!
Product Name Conway Stewart 540A aka "Dinkie".
Manufacturer and Year Conway Stewart UK -- c. 1927-30
Length Closed length is 3-9/16" long. With the cap posted, the fountain pen 4-1/2". Very small!
Filling System The pen fills via a lever. We replaced the bladder and it is working well, and we will guarantee the filling system for a year.
Color Light purples and cream (with a few hints of pink!) "toothpaste", which we believe refers to the lengthwise wavy striped pattern of the casein material. The section is black. The top of the cap has a bump sticking out, into which the jump ring is mounted. The barrel imprint is accented with gold paint.
Nib 14k Conway Stewart nib is medium-fine, flexible and very smooth. Line variation from fine to broad. Lots of tipping material. Please see writing sample.
Condition Excellent + condition for this dainty little pen, in box, with instruction sheet. The pen is beautifully shiny with nice coloring. The cap lip has some rough spots and unevenness, but no cracks. Some of the coloring is slightly mottled, but that's mostly visible under magnification; in hand, the pen is just stunning. The barrel and cap have light scratching. No brassing. The imprints are nice and clear, with nearly all of the gold paint present. The tiny Dinkie box is in good shape, and the instruction sheet is included in the box.
