Corona Pen Co Fountain Desk Pen (1920s) - Striped Brown Celluloid, Fine 14k Nib (Excellent, Restored)
SKU: 20109
Type Vintage fountain pen, desk pen-type, from an uncommon but very collectible manufacturer.
Product Name unknown
Manufacturer and Year Corona Pen Co (Antioch IL, USA) - late 1920s
Length 7-3/4" long
Filling System "Cam filler" - it's essentially a button-filler, but in an unusual way. For this pen, you twist the blind cap to depress and release the pressure bar inside the pen. Removing the blind cap reveals a button with notches on the bottom; those notches are "stop points", so as it turns you're squishing the sac closed, and when you get to the "click", the pressure bar is released, allowing ink to be sucked up via vacuum.
Color Barrel is a striped brown celluloid. Brown taper, and black section. One gold band between barrel and taper. No desk base.
Nib Fine Corona 14k number 5 nib. Smooth and springy.
Condition Excellent condition. No cracks, major scratches, dents, or dings. Microscratching all over. There is a moderate scratch on the barrel that runs parallel to the striped pattern in the celluloid; it's fairly shallow and about 1.5" long, and a little hard to see because it blends into the celluloid patterning. No tooth marks on the taper (or anywhere else, for that matter). Nib is nice and smooth and has a bit of spring. Imprint is clear and readable.
NOTE that this desk pen does not come with a base.
