Product Description
Type dip pen holder with nib and in its original velvet pen box.
Product Name Model name unknown. The holder is marked "2" to indicate it took a #2 sized nib.
Manufacturer and Year USA -- Late 1800s or early 1900s. The holder is unmarked, but the nib was made by Aikin Lambert Co.
Length 6-3/16 with nib installed.
Filling System Dip pen and holder with no ink reservoir. You dip the nib into ink and write. You'll need to use ink intended for dip pens, as regular fontain pen ink is a little too thin for a dip pen.
Color Tapered (genuine) ivory handle with an end finial and with a patterned gold filled gripping portion.
Nib Extra Fine Flexible Aikin Lambert Co. #2 gold nib (marked). Extra fine hairlines to medium-broad at maximum flex. Good tipping material. See the writing sample below.
Condition Very nice condition for this lovely, slender, vintage dip pen. The ivory handle has a 1/4" fine line crack near the gold section with a small area of wear next to it, but if you hold the pen by the gold section when writing this crack will not get worse. The dainty finial at the end of the holder is in perfect condition. The patterned gold gripping area is beautiful. The part that holds the nib has some plating wear along the edges and top rim. The nib looks great. The pale green velvet box is worn but the latch works and it provides good housing for this delicate pen. The imprint on the nib is clear. No major scratches, dings, or dents.
