Product Description
Type Full size fountain pen with a very flexible #2 14k nib
Product Name Duryea De-Co self-filler. The nib is marked Duryea #2 14k. We've had a similarly imprinted BCHR pen that was an eye dropper filler.
Manufacturer and Year Duryea Safety Clip Company, New York, probably teens or 1920s.
Length 5-9/16"
Filling System Matchstick filler. You operate the system by rotating the ring on the barrel and exposing the small round hole, then depressing the pressure bar via a matchstick while holding the pen tip in ink. We cleaned and re-sacked and tested the pen and it works very well.
Color Dark brown chased hard rubber cap and barrel with metal clip marked DE-CO. The ring on the barrel that exposes the small round hole is gold. The feed is black.
Nib Flexible Duryea #2 14k nib .... excellent line variation from extra fine to broad. Lots of tipping material and a nice fine point. See writing sample below.
Condition Excellent restored condition. The color is dark brown. The clip is metal with quite a bit of tarnish. Both the cap and barrel are faded with the original dark brown shade showing under the cap closure. The chasing has smoothed out with wear in some places. There are many microscratches especially at the top of the barrel and on the black feed. No cracks or bite marks.
