Product Description
Type Vintage fountain pen and mechanical pencil set.
Product Name Esterbrook Pastels, 2nd Generation (colored jewels)
Manufacturer and Year Esterbrook, USA - 1950-57
Length Pen is 4-3/8", pencil is 4-1/2".
Filling System The pen is a lever filler, which we have restored with a new sac. It's working great. The pencil takes 0.9mm (or "thin") leads, which it extends via the cap-actuated mechanism, just like most modern mechanical pencils (press the cap down to extend). We'll include a small packet of leads.
Color Pink with chrome trim and pink end jewels.
Nib "Rite Smooth" Fine nib. It's in great condition, fairly smooth, with nice tipping.
Condition Excellent + condition. Fountain pen: The color is a nice medium pink, with just a bit of fading near the top of the cap (the set was undoubtedly stored in one of the Exterbrook vinyl two-pen cases, leaving the top of the pens exposed to light). The jewels are a slightly different color from the body, but as the rest of the pen's color is even, that may simply be the result of age. Light handwear and microscratching, but no major scratches. No staining on the cap or barrel, or barrel threads. The trim looks really good, no brassing or serious wear. No cracks or chips, dings or dents, or personalization. The imprint is slightly worn but very visible. Fully restored and working well. Pencil: condition is similar to the pen, very smooth with only minimal handwear. Slight fading near the top of the cap.
The Purse/Pastel pens and pencils were made with a more fragile plastic than other Esterbrook pens, and it's common to find cracks in the cap lips, but there are none here. Because of this, we suggest that you do not post the pen, or use extreme caution in doing so.
