Product Name Unknown
Manufacturer and Year Gold Medal, USA (Gold Medal was a sub-brand of National Pen Products) - circa 1930s or '40s.
Length The fountain pen is 5-1/4" long, and the pencil is 5" long.
Filling System Button filler. We've replaced the sac and it's working very well. The pencil takes 1.1mm leads, which extend and retract by twisting the cone.
Color Thin green stripes of different shades running the length of the pen. Gold-plated trim including 3/16" cap bands and clips with a really unusual pattern that looks like overlapping scales (like some conifer cones, or a pangolin's!).
Nib FINE Gold Medal 14k nib is firm and smooth, and has excellent tipping.
Condition Excellent + condition. The fountain pen has light scratching and handwear on the cap and barrel. The cap band has some brassing and small dots of plating wear. The clip has light wear on the face, and plating wear along the sides. The clip ring has plating wear along the ridges. The ink view window has some internal surface marks, but is very clear and not yellowed. The mechanical pencil has light to moderate scratching on the cap and barrel. The "cap" band has brassing and some dots of pitting. The clip and clip ring have tarnish. The cone has brassing and some plating wear. The color on both pieces of the set is really strong, with very deep greens and minimal fading or yellowing. No cracks or chips. The barrel imprints are strong.
