Product Description
Type Vintage reservoir inkwell. This is just guesswork, but we think you'd fill up the glass bottle with ink, then upend it into the reservoir, and a small amount of ink fills the lower cavity. You are then able to dip a pen tip in the hole at the base of the front of the device. We can't see how you'd use it to fill a pen (maybe a snorkel would work), so we are guessing it was mostly used with dip pens.
Name FOUNT-O-INK
Manufacturer and Year Gregory Ink Company, USA - c. 1940s-50s
Dimensions The footprint is about 5.5" by 2-7/8", and is about 3-7/8" tall.
Color The base and top cap are made of metal that is the color of old pennies. There is a marbled brown resin/plastic housing on the base with a pen slot, and this holds a glass ink bottle. We're not sure of the material that makes up the marbled brown piece, but when rubbed with a finger, it smells like aged cheese, so it might be casein.
Condition Excellent condition. The outer surfaces of the metal pieces are patinaed and have some scratching and pitting. The undersides have some roughness and rust. The plastic is in good shape, with no cracks or chips. The glass bottle has ink stains on it, but no cracks or chips.
