Product Description
Type Fountain pen from a smaller German manufacturer. Here's one discussion thread about Greif on Fountain Pen Network (FPN), and another is linked below.
Product Name Model 7-90, based on the imprint on the barrel
Manufacturer and Year Greif, Germany -- unsure, probably 1930s-50s? Greif was a stationery company like Pelikan, though they mainly specialized and competed in carbon paper and typewriter ribbons. Greif did produce some fountain pens, and the company was eventually bought by Pelikan.
Length Just over 5" long
Filling System Piston filling system. We have tested it and it's working very well.
Color Black with gold plated trim.
Nib The barrel is marked with 7-90, and after seeing a 1938 catalog page in this FPN thread, we believe that the 7 refers to the pen having a broad, left oblique nib. This oblique cut it subtle, and there's nice flexibility. It's very smooth and wet, and gives good variation. See our writing sample in the photos below.
Condition Excellent + condition with no cracks, chips, dents, or dings. This is a classically designed pen in a great color. The barrel has light to moderate scratching, but no noticeable individual scratches. The ink view window has internal staining, but you can see through it with a backlight. The piston knob and barrel have some light marks. The cap has some light scratching. The cap band has some plating wear, but no brassing and glue residue (?) along the edges. There is some plating wear on the clip ring. The imprints are clear.
