Product Description
Type Twist filling fountain pen, restored and working well.
Product Name Dollar Pen.
Manufacturer and Year Charles H. Ingersoll, Newark, NJ -- the celluloid Dollar Pens were available briefly starting in 1927. In 1928 they switched to bakelite and changed the markings on the button knob.
Length Just over 5-1/2 inches
Filling System Twist filler. We've restored it and it's working well. For this filling system, the sac is affixed on the back end to a plug, with a pointed tack inserted into the plug which would turn and squeeze the sac. We restored the pen as a button filler with a tranditional closed sac, so all you have to do is press down on the tack as you would a button in a button filler. For a more detailed discussion of the design and the company, please see Richard Binder's reference page.
Color Orange celluloid cap and barrel with a black top of the cap and a gold plated clip.
Nib FLEXIBLE FINE Ingersoll 14k nib is smooth with lovely tipping material. It's what we would call fully flexible, with easy flex from fine to a nice double broad under hardly any pressure.
Condition Excellent condition. No cracks or chips, dings or dents, personalization, or plating wear. There are a few small marks and scratches on the cap and barrel, and some slight marks of staining on the part of the barrel that is covered by the cap when it's on. The imprint on the top of the cap is just a little worn, still fully readable (it reads "Guaranteed Chas. H. Ingersoll Newark N.J.). The pen has been fully restored and it's working very well.
